Lars Duchateau (°1997, Hasselt, Belgium) is an artist who mainly works with photography. His images are an investigation by studying sign processes, signification and communication. he makes work that generates diverse meanings and associations. The works are characterised by the use of everyday events in which recognition plays an important role. By taking daily life as subject matter, he plays with the idea of the mortality of an artwork . His work deal with the documentation of events and the question of how they can be presented. He is interested in the long-term effect of things.

Stilled pictures documents the decors of student films dating from 2020. The sets that were documented were built and demolished in a period of 24 hours. Here again, the still image is able to capture the architecture that is now history, or embedded in the movie. The negatives were exposed directly after the directors filmed their last shot.
